The 4Cs Food Pantry (Christian Community Caring Center) is trying to alleviate food insecurity in Pender County by providing nutritious food to clients twice a month.

The pantry is a 501c(3) non-profit organization founded in 1988. It is funded solely by grants and donations from churches, community organizations, and individuals.

The 4Cs has provided essential food to those who have lost their job, have serious health issues or have suffered a catastrophic event (like a fire, flooding, or a pandemic), to low-income families with children to feed, to seniors living on fixed incomes, and to those who are disabled.

The 4Cs Food Pantry is located in Hampstead at 15200 US Highway 17, Jones Plaza, in the heart of Pender County.

The pantry serves all persons in Eastern Pender County, north to the Onslow County line, south to the New Hanover County line, and west to Rocky Point (east of I-40). Having said that, they never turn anyone away.

Clients must complete a simple referral form which permits them to receive food twice a month from the pantry.

Each household receives a full tub of groceries, such as canned soup and vegetables, rice, oatmeal, cereal, pasta. For a household of 3 or more, they receive an additional bag of staples. If there are children under 18 in the household, they receive a Snack Bag with nutritious snackscrackers, pudding cups, pretzels, etc. For seniors and those with health issues, they provide Ensure, Glucerna for diabetics, or generic nutritional supplements.

They maintain a "free" table of additional food items, like canned beets or Chef-Boyardee that they have either bought or have been donated by stores, individuals or churches. Clients can shop for up to 10 items from that table. They receive non-perishables, frozen meat and vegetables from the Food Bank, as well as ground beef from Piney Woods Farm in Burgaw, which they distribute to families, and regularly provide clients with hotdogs, cheese, and eggs.

The 4Cs is operated solely by volunteers.
